James D. Kirk, Jr. was raised in Oak Park, IL and is an alumnus of Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg, PA and Northwestern University. Starting in the construction industry in 1973, Jim designed and built many Chicago-area commercial and office interiors as owner, president and chief carpenter of Kirkwall Corporation, Oak Brook, IL.
The patented Kirkwall* System converted gypsum board into self-supporting panels. The result is much faster construction of interior systems such as partitions, soffits, ceilings and column covers. Using gypsum board faced with vinyl wall coverings, "one-trade" interiors can be installed in record time and at great savings. Kirkwall* panels are non-combustible, demountable and re-usable. The original non-residential Kirkwall* System has been updated to make it ideal for user-friendly housing.
Jim has been granted many U.S. and foreign patents, trademarks and copyrights. Most of these relate to his objective of inventing, designing and developing cost-effective building systems. (The C-Stix* engineered framing is perfectly straight and costs and weighs less than standard 2x4, 2x6, etc. The RockBlock* load bearing wall system combines lath, structure and "high-R" insulation. The Seismic Shock Absorber* is a concrete-free earthquake-resistant footing system.
